Interpretation Events
Interpretation Events (often just called Interp) are more theatrical in nature and require the speaker to portray multiple characters in a performance pulled from a script or novel.
Humourous Interpretation (HI)
A performance in which the speaker is using a play, novel or short story and portrays the characters and story line using vocal and physical differentiations. Occasionally, manuscripts are allowed, but the successful performers are memorized. This event is fast-paced, also called Humorous Prose.
This is a Nationals and a State event.
Dramatic Interpretation (DI)
A performance in which the speaker is using a play, novel, or short story and portrays the characters and story line using vocal and physical differentiations. Occasionally, manuscripts are allowed, but the successful performers are memorized. This event is slower paced, to intensify the tragic nature of the storylines. Also called Serious Prose.
This is a Nationals and a State event.
Poetry Interpretation (POE)
A performance in which the speaker arranges a collection of poems (humorous or serious) presents them in an effective manner to portray a specific theme, feeling, or experience. The collection of poems is usually by the same author or has a similar theme. Manuscripts are required.
This is a State event.
Program of Oral Interpretation (POI)
A performance in which the speaker creates an argument using poems, plays, articles, and books to make a point. Manuscripts are required and may be used as a prop to enhance your performance.
This is a National event.
