Limited Preparation Events
Limited Preparation events are Public Address events that are prepared prior to each round.
Extemporaneous Speaking (EXT)
An original speech prepared by the student in response to a question drawn at the tournament, usually persuasive in nature and based on current events and/or politics. At Class A tournaments, speakers will be given 30 minutes to prepare a 5-7 minute speech. At all other tournaments, speakers will be given 1 hour to prepare.
Depending on the tournament, this event is sometimes split into two events: Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking and International Extemporaneous Speaking.
This is a Nationals and a State event.
Impromptu Speaking
An original speech prepared “off the cuff.” A humorous, structured response to a topic drawn 5 minutes before speaking. These speeches are 3-5 minutes in length. This event is only offered at select tournaments.
This is a State event and a Nationals Supplemental event.
